Miami's Big Three

Two weeks after the beginning of the NBA Free Agency Period, Miami Heat pulled the biggest signing coup in the NBA history. The Heat franchise, coached by Filipino-American Erik Spoelstra, signed the top three free agents in the NBA: Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, and reigning MVP Lebron James.

The signing will definitely change the NBA's landscape for a while with Cleveland turning into a mediocre team from being one of the contenders. Miami, on the other hand, will return to its old but not so distant glory in 2006 (when Shaquille O'Neal and Dwayne Wade leading the charge to the franchise's first championship trophy).

Now the question is “Will it work?”

Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade played together for the Team USA for the last five years or so that culminated in winning and retaining the Olympic basketball gold medal in 2008. If they (the big three) decide to play for Team USA in the upcoming 2010 FIBA World Championship, then it will be a glimpse for what to come in Miami and in the NBA.

NBA Big Three/Big Four is kinda big thing these days. There was the good ol' San Antonio Spurs (Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili) that won four championships and most recently, the Boston Celtics' big three (Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen) in 2008. There were failures too like the Los Angeles Lakers of 2004, when Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant teamed up with Karl Malone and Gary Payton (they were defeated by five not-so popular guys from Detroit in the finals).

Anyway, I prefer the one-two punch combo though like the Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen or the Shaquille O'Neal-Kobe Bryant or most recently, Kobe Bryant-Pau Gasol. However, you can't say no to a line-up that includes Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh.

Free agency period isn’t finish yet; some players are yet to sign. I'm waiting for Nate Robinson, J.J. Reddick, and the big fella Shaquille O'Neal.
P.S. I did not made the photos and I don't own them. Second Photo courtesy of Miami Heat.
