The True Meaning of Christmas

Today is December 25. It’s Christmas Day!

Millions of people celebrate this festive holiday every year. Brought families back together for at least once a year. Christmas lights are everywhere. Christmas lanterns, Christmas trees, and of course, the fat guy, Santa Clause.

However, many people did not understand the true meaning of Christmas and why there is Christmas. Non-Christians these days even celebrate it. Though most Christians, would-be Christians, and Christian pretenders will say “Merry Christmas” but God-denying Atheists would say “Happy Holidays” instead. Some would even use the short term* “X-mas” and removed the word “Christ”. Many people are looking forward of the tales of Saint Nicholas or Santa Clause (a.k.a. SATAN Clause). Dancing Santa dolls. Santa and his reindeers are more popular than the real story of Christmas.

The real story of Christmas is about the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ from a virgin birth. Sent by the Almighty God to save mankind from their sins.

In the Bible (King James Version), Matthew 1:18-25:
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.”
In Luke 1: 26-35:
“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God.
And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
And shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

Even in the Old Testament, it prophesied the coming birth of Christ :

In the Book of Isaiah 7:13-14:
“And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”
In Isaiah 9:6:
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Those are just the beginning of the story of Lord Jesus Christ. Those were the origins of the Christmas that most people enjoyed and celebrated today and for the generations to come. But an increasingly immoral society and atheistic agnosticism in western developed societies threatens the future of Christianity and that of our children. Many people celebrate Christmas today but many celebrate it because it’s a holiday. Because of Santa Clause/Satan Clause. Because of gifts or parties. Not because of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many did not understand or have no idea what is the true meaning of Christmas.

Many true Christians out there may have said the same thing. Some might have different words and scriptures from the Holy Bible but in the end, the true meaning of Christmas is that the Almighty God sent his son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to die on the cross and wash our sins with his blood. One special verse from the Bible said it all:
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

"Christmas in Our Hearts" by Jose Mari Chan (feat. Liza Chan)

One of my favourite Christmas songs when I grew up in the Philippines was the song "Christmas in Our Hearts". Whenever I heard this song, it always reminds me of my childhood and how unique we Filipinos celebrate the Birth of Christ. The fireworks. The late night food feast and the family gathering.

"Christmas in Our Hearts"
by Jose Mari Chan (feat. Liza Chan)

Whenever I see girls and boys
selling lanterns on the streets
I remember the Child
in the manger as He sleeps
wherever there are people
giving gifts, exchanging cards
I believe that Christmas
is truly in their hearts

Lets light our Christmas trees
for a bright tomorrow
where nations are at peace
and all are one in God

Lets sing Merry Christmas
and a happy holiday
this season, may we never forget
the love we have for Jesus
let Him be the One to guide us
as another new year starts
and may the spirit of Christmas
be always in our hearts

In every prayer and every song
the community unites
celebrating the birth
of our Savior, Jesus Christ

let love, like that starlight
on that first Christmas morn
lead us back to the manger
where Christ the Child was born

So, come let us rejoice
come and sing a Christmas carol
with one big joyful voice
proclaim the name of the Lord!

Lets sing Merry Christmas
and a happy holiday
this season, may we never forget
the love we have for Jesus
let Him be the One to guide us
as another new year starts
and may the spirit of Christmas
be always in our hearts
